Hundreds of community members gathered at the Word Tabernacle Church in Rocky Mount to discuss solutions for community violence after four teenagers were shot behind the church last month. Many at the meeting said an increase in gun availability on the streets of Rocky Mount contributes to the problem.

Rocky Mount Community Gathers To Brainstorm After Teen Shootings

Community members and leaders will gather in Rocky Mount today to discuss potential solutions to poverty and gang violence there.

Rocky Mount community members and leaders are gathering at Word Tabernacle Church tonight for a public forum. This comes just weeks after four boys were shot on the church basketball court, and another was killed in a drive-by shooting.

Word Tabernacle Church Pastor James Gailliard said the tragedies have been a catalyst for social dialogue. He said he sees people crossing the aisle politically and having constructive discussions about how to combat gang violence, poverty and joblessness in the community.

Rocky Mount Exhibit Honors Banking History

One of the biggest banks in North Carolina is PNC. The bank was introduced to the state after its acquisition of RBC last year.  These banking institutions have roots that reach back to Rocky Mount.  And that’s where a new exhibit honors the region’s rich banking history.

The PNC Legacy Project is the first exhibit you see when you walk into the Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences in Rocky Mount.  David Combs is the Mayor of Rocky Mount.  He was born and bred here.

Rocky Mount Police Zero In on Gunshots

Police in Rocky Mount are using acoustic sensors to detect the sound of gunshots and find the location of the shooter. Sergeant Kevin Bern says the system called "ShotSpotter" uses four sensors strategically placed throughout the city.

EPA Cleans Up Chemicals in Rocky Mount

EPA officials are working to clean up tractor trailers containing barrels filled with chemicals on a residential property in Rocky Mount. The owner of the property said the trailers had been there since he inherited the land from his father. When crews arrived on-site they reported strong chemical odors and a trailer was leaking black material. Kenneth Rhame of the EPA says they have determined the air around the site is not contaminated, but soil contamination is still a worry.
