The NCAA reports college athletes suffer more than 10,000 concussions a year, but perhaps more alarming is the fact that about three-quarters of these cases are not reported to coaches or team doctors.

Two public health experts at UNC-Greensboro have received grants from the Department of Defense and NCAA to help encourage these players report their injuries and change the culture of concussions.

The UNC Board of Governors gave North Carolina State University the green light to begin planning a $15 million dorm that will house some of the school's basketball players.

The N.C. State Wolfpack Club, the school's booster organization, will foot the bill for the 62-bed facility. More than half of the dorm's residents will be non-athletes in accordance with NCAA rules.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill announced today it has received a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA. It is the second set of allegations UNC has received in the past five years.

The NCAA reopened its examination into academic irregularities at UNC last year. The notice is expected to outline allegations of fraudulent classes taken by student-athletes at the university.

In men's college basketball, the Duke Blue Devils are one game away from another National Championship.

Duke beat Michigan State 81-61 in the Final Four Saturday. That was the highest point total the Blue Devils have allowed in the NCAA Tournament.

Coach Mike Krzyzewski praised his freshmen-heavy team's defense.

"These guys have learned at a quicker rate, though, than I would have expected from a young team. We've been outstanding on the defensive end, primarily in a man-to-man, but with some modifications."

In the National Collegiate Athletic Association men's basketball tournament, Duke is headed to the Final Four for the 16th time. They had a 66-52 win over Gonzaga last night.

Coach Mike Krzyzewski, praised his team's solid defense against Gonzaga, especially in the first half.

"Look, they average about 80 points a game. They're the top offensive team in the country. So we felt pretty good about holding them to 26."

It's Coach K's 12th trip to the Final Four. He celebrated his thousandth career win earlier this season.

Atlantic Coast Conference commissioner John Swofford announced on Thursday that the league's men's basketball tournament will come back to North Carolina after a few years away:

  • Charlotte will host the tournament in 2019.
  • Greensboro will see the event return in 2020.

(Earlier, the ACC announced it will take the men's tournament to Brooklyn's Barclays Center for two years.)

Swofford says new membership has mandated a broader reach.

UNC-Chapel Hill and NC State will both try to avoid elimination tonight when they meet in the College World Series.

This is the fifth match-up of the season between these two rivals and the stakes don’t get much higher. UNC and State split a pair of regular season match-ups. The Tar Heels then won a classic 18-inning affair last month during the ACC Tournament. And the Wolfpack got the latest laugh with an 8-1 victory in the College World Series this past weekend.

NC State's Wolfpack has had the entire season to prepare for its World Series shot this weekend, but when they arrived at the hotel in Omaha this week, a couple players managed to get in a last minute pickup game with a Little League team on the lawn of their hotel.  NC State communications caught players Logan Ratledge and Jake Armstrong on film batting with an 11-and-under team from Colorado Thursday afternoon. Nearby hotel and car windows were spared –they used a wiffle ball.
