It's time again for "Mad Men Mondays," a series of observations, reviews, and reflections on AMC's Mad Men series published by folks from the Hartman Center. A part of Duke University's Rubenstein Library, the Hartman Center studies advertising history, and each Monday they dig through their archive to find ads for items referenced in the latest Mad Men episode.

File this first one under "better late than never" as we go to press on Tuesday with this next installment of Mad Men Mondays.

Mad Men Mondays: Episode 6, “The Strategy”

May 19, 2014

In partnership with Duke University's Hartman Center, we continue the Mad Men Mondays series with images from the University's advertising archive that relate to Sunday night's episode.

Last night’s episode featured references to loafers, Buick, Barbie, Fondue pots, among other things.  Enjoy our selection of highlighted ads that reflect the brands and themes that Mad Men characters interacted with last night.

Mad Men Mondays: Xerox, Golf Clubs And Runaways

May 12, 2014

Episode 5 from the final season of AMC's "Mad Men" has aired and as we have done over the last several Mondays, in partnership with Duke University's Hartman Center For Sales, Advertising & Marketing History, we present the next in the "Mad Men Mondays" series.

It's now 1969 on AMC's Mad Men, and the start of advertising genius Don Draper's final journey. Show creator Matthew Weiner is currently at work writing and shooting the series' concluding episodes. The final season, which began last month, is divided into two parts, with the second half to be shown next year.

The new season opens with Don and his advertising agency dealing with the consequences of what happened at the end of Season 6, when the partners forced Don to take a leave of absence after he chose the wrong time to tell the truth about his past.

AMC’s final Mad Men season debuted this week. Many staff members of the Hartman Center at Duke University tuned in. The center specializes in advertising and marketing history. Their archives are full of the sort of ads seen on the series. In fact, the AMC show even consults with them from time to time.
