U.S. Figure Skating

The U.S. Figure Skating Championships begin this weekend in Greensboro. This same event came to the city four years ago.

Bob Dunlop, Senior Director of Events for US Figure Skating, says that now is a good time for the skaters and fans to come back to North Carolina:

"[It's the] start of a new Olympic cycle for us. New faces - some of the people who competed in '11 are gone from the sport. So, a great re-start for us."

Competitors will skate in singles, pairs and ice dancing divisions.

The 'Greatest Show On Earth' arrived in Greensboro this week. The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus has been performing for nearly a century. That longevity has led to some circus family traditions that cover multiple generations. 

Young children in strollers and on shoulders are trying to contain their excitement as they wait on the side of the road across from the train tracks in Greensboro. And then, at dusk, from over a hill come a few elephants and several horses.

The 60th ACC Men's Basketball Tournament tips off Thursday at the Greensboro Coliseum. NC State plays Virginia Tech at approximately 2:30 pm and Wake Forest meets Maryland at 7. Duke and UNC will both play on Friday.

The 60th edition of the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament starts Thursday at the Greensboro Coliseum. The city, which is nicknamed “Tournament Town,” is hosting the event for the 24th time, more than any other venue.

ACC icons like North Carolina State’s David Thompson, UNCs Michael Jordan and Maryland’s Len Bias all played in conference championships that took place in Greensboro. Longtime scorekeeper Gary Strickland witnessed those men play and many other memorable moments.

The ACC Women's Tournament has taken place at the Greensboro Coliseum every year since 2000. A different school has won the event in each of the last four seasons.

The 36th annual ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament tips off Thursday morning at the Greensboro Coliseum.  Last year, more than 60,000 tickets were purchased for the four day event. Fans attending this year’s tournament are likely to notice some of the $8.5 million in renovations and upgrades that were recently completed.
