New Look For The Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes have spent 15 years in the same uniform, but next season that all changes. Today the PNC arena, the team unveiled a new design for its home and road dress. While the signature red and white colors and the identifying logo remain the same, the style is cleaner and more modern.

Carolina Hurricanes Gearing Up For Short NHL Season

Carolina Hurricanes fans are about a week away from welcoming their team back to the ice. Hockey owners and the N-H-L Players Association recently reached an agreement on collective bargaining which lifted a nearly four-month-long lockout. Players are now getting ready for a condensed season. Hurricanes' general manager Jim Rutherford says it's great to see the players skating again, but he hasn't lost sight of the others affected by the long lockout.

Triangle Braces For Long Hockey Lockout

Players, staff, and others who earn a living from professional hockey in the Triangle are bracing for a long, protracted labor dispute.  One year after the entire 2004-2005 season was lost due to the last contractual dispute between team owners and players, the Carolina Hurricanes won the Stanley Cup.

'Canes Hire New Coach

Eric Hodge: The Carolina Hurricanes have a new coach. Kyle Muller has been chosen to lead the Triangle’s only major sports franchise. Dave DeWitt reports.

The Canes entered the season hoping to battle for the southeast division title in the NHL – or, at least, make the playoffs. But after winning just 8 of their first 25 games, the Hurricanes have the second-worst record in the division. That led team management to fire head coach Paul Maurice.

General Manager Jim Rutherford says it’s time to make a change.

Canes Extend Rutherford's Contract

The Carolina Hurricanes have extended the contract of General Manager Jim Rutherford. Rutherford is the only G-M the franchise has had since moving to North Carolina 14 years ago.

The tenure of many professional sports general managers can be measured in months. But Rutherford has been at the helm of the franchise for 18 years – the second longest tenure in the National Hockey League.

In that time, the Hurricanes have a winning record overall, have hosted an NHL All-Star game, and won a Stanley Cup in 2006.

NHL All-Star Game Brings World To Raleigh

The NHL All-Star Game will be played in Raleigh this weekend. The game will bring the world’s best hockey players to the Triangle. Thousands of fans are expected to attend the festivities in and around the Downtown Raleigh Convention Center, starting tomorrow. They’ll get a chance to get their picture taken with the Stanley Cup and hone their slap shots on fake ice. Millions more will watch the game and other associated events on TV.

Raleigh Businesses Gear Up For All-Star Weekend

Thousands of hockey fans will gather in Raleigh later this month for All-Star Weekend and local businesses are preparing by sharpening their customer service skills. A conference will be held this afternoon by Wake Tech Community College at the RBC center.

Wake Tech instructor Jane Broden says the presentation will focus on customer service for small business owners, retailers, hospitality staff, and managers.
