North Carolina Doctors’ Rap About Urgent Care A Hit

Several area doctors star in a new video that is getting some buzz online. The video aims to answer the question of when it's appropriate to go to urgent care, and when one should head to the emergency room:

The video features doctors from Rex Express Care in Knightdale, Holly Springs, Wakefield and Cary.

"We're not an E.R. Let's make that clear. But we got a lotta cool gear up in here," raps doctor DeLora Cumming of the Rex Express Care of Knightdate.

"Bad allergies, does it hurt when you pee? We've got a physician who is on duty," adds doctor Kimberly Caulway of the Wakefield location.

Urgent care locations are open when a traditional doctor's office may be closed: nights, weekends and holidays. In addition, if a primary care doctor can't fit a patient in, urgent care might be a good alternative.

Knowing the difference between urgent care and the ER can mean more money in your pocket.

The average cost of a trip to the emergency room is $2,100, but the average cost at an urgent care facility is $155.

Officials are quick to point out that if you are having chest pain, shortness of breath or slurred speech, these could be signs of a heart attack or stroke, and that is the time to call 9-1-1.

Here's an infographic that gives more detail about when one should go to an urgent care facility or head to the emergency room:
