NC Jobless Rate Up Slightly In January
By Leoneda Inge
North Carolina’s jobless rate inched up a bit during the month of January. The latest numbers were released today.
The January jobless rate sits at 9-point-9 percent – a tenth of a percentage point higher than November and December of last year. But it's a lot lower than Jannuary last year when the unemployment rate in North Carolina was more than 11-percent. The state’s Employment Security Commission says the largest loss of jobs at the start of the year was in construction – losing 51-hundred jobs. The largest INCREASE in jobs come in the area called trade, transportation and utilities. The retail sector also showed promise.
