Fed up with flaming and unfriending, snark and shade, when discussing hot button issues like politics, religion, guns, LGBTQ rights and more? Then it’s time to join The Civilist with the Washington Post’s Steven Petrow as he and his guests take on the issues you care about. Petrow’s guests are Red, Blue, and Purple—and his focus is on how to talk together, not who’s right or wrong. He’s determined to make American kind again.Ask your question:Call 919 -263 - 0929 or leave a voice message at thecivilistpodcast@gmail.com

Steven and his guest experts take questions from listeners and audience members at a live show in Durham, North Carolina. Of course, that's the hometown of his alma mater Duke University.

Duke undergrads Chinyere Amanze and Matthew King are back to take on a slew of listener and audience questions:

  • How to respond when a colleague keeps interrupting you at work
  • What to say to friends who only brag about their awesome lives on social media, and expect you to like it all
  • Whether it's old-fashioned or just plain sexist for men to hold doors for women
  • How to confront a roommate who's always stinking up the kitchen
  • What to say to a "mansplainer"
  • How to discourage a friend who's texting while driving
  • When it's finally too late to send out those holiday cards.

This live event was a joint production with other podcasts based in North Carolina's Research Triangle area. Scene on Radio, She & Her, and Criminal also presented.

This live event wraps up production of The Civilist podcast with WUNC and PRI, but you can still find this and past episodes on wunc.org. And Steven will continue to post work at his website.
