In the U.S., 35 percent of people in their early 20s are in college, but only about 18 percent of students actually complete programs to earn a degree or certificate by the time they are 24 . Many outside factors can influence a student to drop out of school, but some North Carolina institutions are pulling out all the stops -- from fast food to complimentary laundry service -- to create appealing social environments that encourage students to return to college each year. Host Frank Stasio talks to local college administrators about ways to nurture students from freshman orientation to graduation. This conversation is part of our week-long series on higher education, “North Carolina Voices: Considering College.”
