The field of Jewish Southern studies is nearly 30 years old. And in that time it has shifted from a genealogical approach to one of social history. A new anthology called "Jewish Roots in Southern Soil" (University Press of New England/2006) combines the most exciting new scholarship in a single volume. Co-editor Marcie Ferris, who is also the associate director of the Carolina Center for Jewish Studies at UNC-CH, joins host Frank Stasio to talk about the book and the secret to crisp latkes.
