Junius Wilson was never declared insane by a medical professional, nor was he ever found guilty of any criminal charges. Still, Wilson, a deaf Black man, spent nearly eight decades of his life in a North Carolina mental institution. "Unspeakable" (UNC Press/2007) is the story of Junius Wilson as told by authors Susan Burch and Hannah Joyner. They join host Frank Stasio to share what they learned about his life and how Wilson's journey reflects the history of North Carolina with regard to race and disability.
