Wayne Martin wishes stringband music was right up there with high-tech jobs and good weather as a selling point for the Triangle region. He aims to chip away at the assumption that banjoes and fiddles are only mountain music with a new CD called “Going Down to Raleigh: Stringband Music in the North Carolina Piedmont: 1976-1998.” Legendary Piedmont banjo player Marvin Gaster and guitarist Gerry Overton join Wayne to play some songs off the CD and discuss our region’s homegrown music.
