Author and activist Ina May Gaskin founded The Farm Midwifery Center near Summertown, Tennessee in 1971. Since then Gaskin, a certified professional midwife, has devoted her life and her career to safe births. In addition to writing and lecturing, Gaskin also advocates for legislation to license midwives and allow them to practice without the supervision of a physician, as is the law in North Carolina. She joins host Frank Stasio to talk about the value and contributions of midwives in the birthing process and the legislative push for licensure.
