Magdalena Zurawski had trouble publishing her first novel. Agents and editors told her that they loved it, but it wouldn't be easy to market. It was deemed "too experimental." So she submitted it to book contests instead and won one. The prize was $500 and publication. That's good news for Magdalena and for readers, but it hardly secured her future. So now she's studying literary theory at Duke. Magdalena Zurawski joins host Frank Stasio to discuss the relationship between writing literary fiction and studying literary theory. She reads from her novel, "The Bruise" tonight at the Regulator Bookshop in Durham at 7 p.m.
