Redefining the Harpsichord

The harpsichord probably conjures images of a ballroom full of Baroque dancers, but Elaine Funaro is helping carry the instrument and its music forward into modern times. She’s a leading performer of contemporary harpsichord music and she has commissioned master harpsichord builder Richard Kingston and artist Lisa Creed to build and decorate a new instrument that challenges those stuffy Baroque stereotypes. Elaine, Richard and Lisa join host Frank Stasio for a discussion about the harpsichord in advance of her concert series, “Back to Bach & Beyond: Redefining the Harpsichord” and the debut of the new instrument “Opus 333.” See an extended photo gallery of Opus 333.
