Doug Marlette is North Carolina's literary one man band -- he writes a daily comic strip called "Kudzu;" draws Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoons; teaches; creates musicals; writes opinion pieces AND writes novels. His new book, "Magic Time" (FSG/2006) fictionalizes no less a historic time than 1964-65 in no less a historic place than Mississippi. The book is an intricate study of one man's personal demons, his possible redemption and an entire country's challenge to change and deliver justice. Host Frank Stasio speaks with Doug Marlette about writing, cartooning, pissing people off, and the future of the South.
