Why aren’t there more women in rock n’ roll? Shane King used to theorize that girls just don’t like to be loud. But after a week spent listening to deafening guitar licks and ear-splitting screams at the Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls, he realized there was a lot more to it than simple gender differences. Shane King, co-director of the documentary film, “Girls Rock!” joins music industry veteran Carla DeSantis, founder of ROCKRGRL magazine, to discuss the societal pressures and industry barriers that marginalize women in rock ‘n roll. “Girls Rock!” will be screening tonight at the Carolina Theater in Durham. It’s sponsored by the Troika Music Festival and Girls Rock NC.
