What does it mean to be a “Republican” or a “Democrat”? Well, it depends on which decade you’re talking about. The definitions of “Republican” and “Democrat” have shifted over time and continue to change today. We’ll discuss what it means to affiliate with a political party and why this election cycle could once again redefine political identity in the South with: Andy Taylor, associate professor and chair of the Department of Political Science at N.C. State University; Fitzhugh Brundage, William B. Umstead professor of History and director of graduate studies at UNC-Chapel Hill; and, Bob Moser, editor of the Texas Observer, contributing editor to The Nation and author of “Blue Dixie: Awakening the South’s Democratic Majority” (Times Books/2008). We also welcome listener calls at 877-962-9862.
