Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Tuesday, October 27 2009
by Janet Babin and Lindsay Thomas
There have been 57 known victims of domestic violence homicide in North Carolina alone this year. Survivors of family violence suffer physical, sexual, emotional or economic abuse at the hands of their romantic partners. Interact of Wake County has been serving battered women and children in North Carolina for more than two decades. The non-profit organization has opened a new facility in Raleigh that houses shelter and support programs as well as space for important services like medical care, substance abuse counseling and trained law enforcement. Interact's Executive Director Adam Hartzell joins guest host Janet Babin to talk about the development of this unique collaborative center and how raising community awareness can prevent domestic violence.
