Hip-hop music long ago transcended its roots as a distinctly American art form. But one thing hasn't changed: for many inner city kids, hip-hop still offers a way out of the ghetto. For hip-hop artist and educator J. Bully, rapping helped him survive grade school. But it became much more than a hobby: after starting his own record label in Atlanta, Bully moved back to North Carolina and got a job teaching hip-hop appreciation at Duke University. Guest J. Bully joins host Frank Stasio to talk about what hip-hop means to him and why it is such an important cultural force.
