Improving Rural Health

Rates of heart disease, diabetes and obesity in Eastern North Carolina out pace the rest of the state, and so does the rate of poverty. The State of Things visited the James D. Bernstein Community Health Center in Greenville, North Carolina to talk about the specific health care needs of the community and to speak with health specialists who are finding creative solutions for patients in rural North Carolina, including: Pediatrician Tom Irons, ECU medical student Cindy Johns, community health advocate Lydia Best and Chris Mansfied, director of ECU’s Center for Health Services Research and Development.
