Most dogs will head in the direction of a pointed finger. It’s an instinct that Brian Hare, an evolutionary anthropology professor at Duke University, says can teach us a lot about the advanced mental ability of our canine companions. This fall, Hare is opening the Duke Canine Cognition Center. He and other researchers will test hundreds of dogs in an effort to understand how they solve problems and how they’ve adapted to domestic life. Brian Hare joins guest host Laura Leslie to talk about the social intelligence of the pet pooch.
