North Carolina suspends students at a rate that is 45 percent higher than the national average. And we’re one of 21 states that still allow paddling. But do these slap ‘em around or throw ‘em out methods get results? We’ll discuss discipline in our schools with: Peggy Dean, a Waxhaw parent who is also a board member of Parents and Teachers Against Violence in Education; Lewis Pitts, an attorney with Legal Aid of North Carolina; Greg Decker, principal of West Lake Middle School in Apex; and, Gary Shaffer, a professor in UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Social Work. Listener Call-in.
