Before the Civil War, whites and black slaves often worshipped together in Southern evangelical churches. North Carolina native and Elon University professor Charles Irons has examined how those white church-goers not only justified slavery, but were among the staunchest supporters of the institution. Irons talks with host Frank Stasio about his new book, "The Origins of Proslavery Christianity" (The University of North Carolina Press/2008).
