At first, they thought it was a prank-- teaching blind teenagers photography. But it’s been ten years since a program called “Sound Shadows” began at the Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh and changed the meaning of “vision” for everyone involved. Photographer Tony Deifell joins teacher Shirley Hand and student Cassie Knight to discuss “Seeing Beyond Sight: Photographs by Blind Teenagers” (Chronicle Books/2007).
