Researcher Barbara Fredrickson is proving that there’s a kernel of wisdom in peppy expressions like “Don’t worry, be happy,” or “Stop and smell the roses.” Fredrickson is principal investigator of the Positive Emotions and Psychophysiology Lab at UNC-Chapel Hill and her research examines how cultivating emotions such as joy, gratitude and awe can improve relationships and make us better people. She joins Frank Stasio to discuss the growing field of positive psychology and her new book, “Positivity” (Crown News/2009).
