When Numa "Pee Wee" Moore left Raleigh as a teenager, he couldn't have known how many doors his saxaphone playing would open. At the height of his career, he played in bands led by luminaries such as Dizzy Gillespie and Louis Jordan. He kept playing after he returned to Raleigh, doing gigs at The Irregardless Cafe and private parties while he made a living fixing air conditioning systems and computers. Pee Wee Moore died a few weeks ago, and will be remembered with a tribute concert this weekend at the Irregardless Cafe. Today Duke University archivist Jeremy Smith, local musician Elmer Gibson, Pee Wee's sister Louise Johnson and Irregardless owner Arthur Gordon join host Frank Stasio to talk about Pee Wee's legacy.
