The Business of The Military

Bookmark and Share

A 2004 study found that the military’s economic impact on North Carolina exceeds $18 billion dollars a year. But North Carolina’s proud pronouncement - that we’re the most military-friendly state in the land - doesn’t extend to getting the military’s business. Another report says that North Carolina ranks 38th in Department of Defense prime contract awards. Host Frank Stasio speaks to Beverly Perdue, Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina; Chris Kromm, executive director of the Institute of Southern Studies; Scott Dorney, executive director of the North Carolina Military Business Center; and Melissa Leifheit, owner and president of Military and Federal Construction in Jacksonville, about how more military business might affect North Carolina’s economy and communities.
