My Life in Zines

Long before there were blogs or social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook, there were zines. These handmade, self-published and independently-distributed magazines served as a forum for self-expression and a link to communities of like-minded people.

The Sallie Bingham Center for Women’s History and Culture at Duke University has an extensive zine collection and they’re hosting a panel discussion about zines and zine culture this Wednesday
. That takes place at 3:30 p.m. in the Rare Book Room in Perkins Library at Duke University. Click here for more information.   Local zine authors Jaime Danehey and Alexis Gumbs will be on the panel, but first they join host Frank Stasio in the studio to explain how zines changed their lives.
