Getting a good college coaching job usually comes down to who you know. And some say that means the old boy network plays too big a role in landing the most prominent and highest-paying jobs in college athletics. As March Madness approaches and sports are on the brain, host Frank Stasio discusses what it takes to field a diverse coaching staff and why it matters to players, fans and the game. He is joined by Barry Jacobs, author of “Across the Line: Profiles in Basketball Courage: Tales of the First Black Players in the ACC and SEC;” Charlene Curtis, the first black women’s basketball coach in the ACC and currently the league's Coordinator of Women’s Basketball Officials; Jacob Day and Steve McDonald, N.C. State sociologists who have studied career paths of black coaches in big-time college football; and WUNC reporter Dave DeWitt.
