The dream of a clean-energy future has been floating in the American political consciousness for more than three decades now. Among President Barack Obama’s campaign promises was the creation of five million new "green collar" jobs. The 787 billion-dollar stimulus package he signed yesterday includes his administration's first steps toward making these green jobs a reality. So, have we reached a tipping point where demand for clean-energy technology has caught up with supply? And how can the demand for green jobs help put those in our most impoverished communities to work? Joining Frank Stasio to talk about the future of the green economy are Gary Gereffi and Marcy Lowe, of the Duke Center on Globalization, Governance & Competitiveness; Steve Kalland, director of the North Carolina Solar Center; at North Carolina State University; Nicole St. Clair of the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions at Duke University; and Kalia Lydgate, co-founder of the Massachusettes Green Job Coalition.
