Why Coal?

Duke Energy plans to serve North Carolina’s swelling population with a new 800 megawatt coal unit at their Cliffside plant. Why coal and why now? Host Frank Stasio discusses the economics and environmental impact of meeting the state’s energy needs with: Tom Williams, Environmental and Energy Efficiency spokesperson for Duke Energy,  Bill Watson, energy economist and director of the Coal Team at the Energy Information Administration, and Jim Warren, executive director of the environmental and climate change non-profit N-C Warn.
