Bestselling author and Duke professor Dan Ariely has ideas for changing the way Americans, eat, receive health care, spend and save, all informed by the research he did for "Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions" (Harper Collins/2008). His path to these discoveries began with an accident. As a young trainee in the Israeli army, he suffered third-degree burns over 70 percent of his body when a magnesium battlefield flare unexpectedly exploded in front of him. His time in the hospital arguing with nurses over the changing of his bandages and the administering of his bath ignited his interest in human behavior. After earning doctorates from Duke in business and from UNC-Chapel Hill in psychology, Dan Ariely went off to MIT to test his ideas. Join host Frank Satsio when he meets Dan Ariely.
Dan Ariely is one of the featured authors at the ‘Writers for Readers’ benefit for the Orange County Literacy Council on February 16th at the Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill. For tickets and more information visit www.OrangeLiteracy.org.
