Meet Amy Spaulding
Monday, January 10 2011
by Frank Stasio and Lindsay Thomas
When Amy Spaulding was a little girl, she told her father about her dreams of becoming a novelist. He replied that “writers are kind of strange.” For the Spaulding family, a publisher is the ultimate job to hold in the book business. Her uncle and father worked for Scholastic Books and her grandfather for Houghton Mifflin. Spaulding is carrying on her family tradition with a new Durham-based children’s book publishing company called Sleepy Hollow Books. She joins host Frank Stasio to talk about her business and her family’s history of promoting literacy and a love of books among young readers.
