Voter registration in the state is up and turnout for the 2016 election was high, according to an analysis by Democracy North Carolina. North Carolina ranked 11th in the nation for turnout among eligible voters in 2016, with 69 percent of the state’s 6.9 million registered voters casting ballots in November.

Appalachian State University will not have a early voting site on campus for this year's general election.

The state Board of Elections denied a request from Watauga County Board of Elections member Kathleen Campbell, who submitted a separate early voting plan from the two other members.

Low voter turnout is expected at the polls Tuesday when a second primary takes place.
