It's easy to slip into gloating mode, now that cable channel TLC has finally canceled a show so many of us critics have hated for so long: Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

You may not be able to recognize the face, but when you heard the voice, you knew exactly who is was.

Don Pardo, the durable television and radio announcer who became as much a part of the cultural landscape as the shows and products he touted, died yesterday at his home in Tucson, Arizona. He was 96.

Think again. New research from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business shows that sometimes commercials are even more effective when you’re not paying attention.

North Carolina could see fewer hits like Iron Man 3 or Homeland filmed in the state. That’s because tax incentives that encourage the film industry to make movies here are set to expire in January. Some lawmakers are trying to pass a measure that would give grants to the film industry to keep production companies here. But while budget negotiations are underway, time is running out to pass legislation.

AMC’s final Mad Men season debuted this week. Many staff members of the Hartman Center at Duke University tuned in. The center specializes in advertising and marketing history. Their archives are full of the sort of ads seen on the series. In fact, the AMC show even consults with them from time to time.

Familiar with HBO's new comedy drama Looking? The Huffington Post today featured a Funny or Die parody of the show. The parody is called Not Looking.

Looking, not looking. All we know is that WUNC staffers were looking closely at the parody, because appears that one of the characters is wearing a WUNC t-shirt.

She is not Lady Mary, daughter of the Earl of Grantham in the PBS blockbuster, Downton Abbey. She is Katharine Smith Reynolds, wife of R. J. Reynolds.

Katharine Smith Reynolds and R.J. Reynolds married when Katharine was 24 and R.J. was 54. Despite the thirty year age different, by all accounts they had a marriage based on mutual respect.
