The NHL All-Star Game will be played in Raleigh this weekend. It comes at a time when the city can use the good publicity.

The NHL All-Star Game will be played in Raleigh this weekend. The game will bring the world’s best hockey players to the Triangle. Thousands of fans are expected to attend the festivities in and around the Downtown Raleigh Convention Center, starting tomorrow. They’ll get a chance to get their picture taken with the Stanley Cup and hone their slap shots on fake ice. Millions more will watch the game and other associated events on TV.

U.S. Figure Skating Comes to Greensboro

The nation's most prestigious figure skating event will begin tomorrow in Greensboro. The 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships features the best figure skaters in the country. They're competing for a variety of prizes in different categories. It's the first time North Carolina has hosted the competition. Kim Strable heads the Greensboro Sports Commission, which helps bring big events like this to the city. He says if everything goes smoothly next week, it will open the doors for Greensboro to host more skating competitions.

Raleigh Businesses Gear Up For All-Star Weekend

Thousands of hockey fans will gather in Raleigh later this month for All-Star Weekend and local businesses are preparing by sharpening their customer service skills. A conference will be held this afternoon by Wake Tech Community College at the RBC center.

Wake Tech instructor Jane Broden says the presentation will focus on customer service for small business owners, retailers, hospitality staff, and managers.

The Carolina Mudcats minor-league baseball team has been sold to a group in Florida. The team is slated to move after next season.

The Mudcats Double-A franchise is leaving largely due to the travel costs associated with flying to games in the far-flung Southern League.
