E-Ban In Rockingham County

  • Beginning June 1st, electronic devices will be banned from the Rockingham County Courthouse.

Rockingham County is implementing a ban on all electronics at its courthouse. There have not been any major security problems that triggered the new rule. Officials call the new measure a proactive step toward keeping the courthouse safe.

A New App Challenges Wake Tech To Be More Sustainable

Wake Tech Community College is backing up its commitment to sustainability with the launch of a new partnership with JouleBug, a mobile app customized for its students. The free JouleBug app was created in Raleigh and gives users points, pins, and rewards for making sustainable choices – like taking shorter showers, recycling, or eating on campus to reduce vehicle emissions.

New App Aims to Make Bus Travel Easier

Triangle commuters with high tech devices like smart phones will have a new source for busing information. GoLive aims to be a one-stop source for all the information a bus rider might need. That includes arrival times and routes across different systems. John Tallmadge is Director of Commuter Resources for Triangle Transit. He says right now Triangle commuters can pull up a tool to find out information about certain bus systems.

State Highway Patrol Cracks Down On Texting

Law enforcement officials say their efforts to crack down on people who text on their cell phones while driving is resulting in some success. Jessica Jones reports.

A state law banning texting while driving went into effect about a year and a half ago. Since then, the State Highway Patrol has issued about 11 hundred tickets to people who've been texting on the road. Sergeant Jeff Gordon is a spokesman for the department. He says the patrol conducts periodic "Operation Distracted Driver" campaigns to crack down on the practice.
