The myth of the modern hero is someone with exceptional abilities and extraordinary strength.

But author Christopher McDougall says becoming a hero is just a matter of tapping into the body's capability for natural movement.

Rather than hitting the gym, McDougall told Frank Stasio of WUNC's The State of Things, people should be exercising outdoors through activities that echo the movements humans evolved to do as hunter-gatherers.

In his debut novel, Chapel-Hill based author Michael B. Jones explores a tumultuous relationship between a father and son who search for happiness and identity as their lives fall apart around them.

The Rock 'N' Roll Raleigh marathon will be held this Sunday. It's a huge event with lots of music, as the name implies. Recently we asked Rock 'N' Roll Raleigh marathon runners two simple questions: "Who Are You?" and "Why Do You Run?"

The very first response we received was from someone telling us why they are NOT running.

Rock 'n' Roll Raleigh

The spectacle, ummm...sporting event, that is known as the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon is headed to Raleigh this April. Are you familiar with it?

The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon is a tour. It heads to cities around the U.S. and the world in order to stage marathons. Before they reach Raleigh, marathons will be held in New Orleans, Washington, DC, Dallas, and San Francisco. (They will also hold international events prior to reaching North Carolina, in Nice, France; and Madrid, Spain.)

Runners in the Triangle will be jogging through Raleigh this weekend to support victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.

Organizers will be taking donations for the families of those who died or were injured in Monday's explosions.  Kazem Yahyapour is the director of Cary's annual Tobacco Road Marathon and organized this Sunday's benefit.  He finished the Boston Marathon minutes before the bombs went off.
