President Obama used last night’s State of the Union address to position himself as a champion of the middle class.

He called on Congress to raise taxes for the wealthiest Americans to pay for services like child care and rising health costs.

But he also took a minute to ask Congress to pass a bill that would beef up this nation’s cybersecurity.

Inside, the Laboratory for Analytic Sciences looks every bit like the tech company it once was. There’s lots of natural light, open spaces for employees to comfortably congregate, and some funky, retro cubicles.

But instead of young techies trying to discover the next big thing, the third floor of the Poulton Innovation Center on NC State’s Centennial Campus is a startup – for the NSA.

The NSA is creating a partnership with N.C. State.

When ex-NSA contractor Edward Snowden revealed how the National Security Agency collected data on Americans, the uproar was deafening.
