Tar Heel State In Bottom-Third Nationally For Financial Literacy; What We're Doing About It

The North Carolina Bankers Association has set up a new center to develop curriculum that can help state residents better manage their finances.

Banks, businesses and non-profits are joining forces to help North Carolianians take control of their money.

A report from the finance web site WalletHub found that the Tar Heel State ranks in the bottom-third nationally for financial literacy.

Jan Dillon is the director of the new North Carolina Center for Financial Literacy.  She said financial literacy is knowing the skills to live comfortably within one's means, like budgeting, saving and planning.

NC Economic Forecast Brings Optimism

The mood was a bit more up-beat at this year’s Economic Forecast Forum in Research Triangle Park.  In recent years, the gatherings have been more about the recession than the recovery.  But, yesterday’s annual forecast forum and luncheon brought out a mix of “optimism” and “reality” that seemed easier for state leaders in politics, banking and business to swallow.

Hundreds of people sipped on iced tea and nibbled on carrot cake as the speeches began  beginning with Governor Bev Perdue.

American Mortgage Conference in Raleigh

Some of the nation’s leading housing finance experts will be in Raleigh today and tomorrow for the American Mortgage Conference.  Thad Woodard is president and C-E-O of the North Carolina Bankers Association.  He says they wanted to present a major platform to answer some major questions about the future of home financing.
