Universities Work Together To Bring Ultrafast Internet To NC

A consortium of universities and municipalities are working to bring ultrafast Internet access to central North Carolina.  North Carolina State, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Duke will submit a request for proposals Friday to Internet providers.

NC State Student Rushes Court in Wheelchair, Featured on "Today" Show

An N.C. State student is a local celebrity after he stormed the basketball court in his wheelchair when the Wolfpack beat top-ranked Duke last weekend.  Senior Will Privette was one of the first students on the court Saturday.  Privette says he was thrown to the ground when the crowd converged.  But he continued celebrating after Wolfpack forward C.J. Leslie cleared the crowd and picked him up.  Leslie joined Privette on NBC's "Today" show Tuesday morning.

NC State Meets Vandy in Music City

In college football, NC State plays Vanderbilt today in the Music City Bowl.

The Wolfpack entered the season with hopes of an ACC championship, but posted just a seven and five record, resulting in the firing of head coach Tom O'Brien. New coach Dave Doeren won't lead State in this game. That job goes to offensive coordinator Dana Bible. The interim coach says today is both a challenge and a building block.

Nimble Neutrinos

Physics World recently named its top ten breakthroughs for the year, and research from North Carolina State University was on the list. NC State, along with the University of Rochester in New York, has been working on research into how neutrinos can be used for tricky communications, like talking to submerged submarines or interstellar travelers.

NC a Top Producer of Poinsettias

You know the holiday season is in full swing when Christmas Trees are sprouting up on big corner lots and at most big box stores.   North Carolina is one of the top producers of Christmas Trees.  The state is also a top producer of another holiday plant – the poinsettia. 

First of all – North Carolina poinsettias are grown in-doors – in greenhouses.   The conditions have to be just right. This is a tropical plant, you know.  And the colors! Walking into a poinsettia greenhouse at N-C State is like walking into a candy store!

NC State Fires Football Coach

NC State has fired its head football coach. Tom O’Brien won 40 games and lost 35 in six seasons leading the Wolfpack In a press conference last night, Director of Athletics Debbie Yow said one of the factors was the loss of revenue from football.

What's the Status Of North Carolina Women?

Women in North Carolina vote more and have higher levels of education than men, but a new report shows there are still major struggles.

Numbers from the latest “Status of Women in North Carolina” report were presented yesterday in a Nursing Assistants clinical lab at Wake Tech, where most of the students are women.  This is Hope Marr’s second week in the program. The 24-year-old single mom was in Business Management at NC-State, but had to drop out.
