North Carolina's Heather Richardson: Not Her Olympics

Heather Richardson was born to skate. She found success on rollerblades first, and then moved onto the ice. Before the Sochi Olympic games, she was favored to win three medals in speed skating. But she's come up empty.

Synthetic Ice Rink Offers Warm-Weather Skating

Recent warm weather has not stopped ice skaters from hitting a rink in Graham. The synthetic surface at the Children's Museum of Alamance County does not rely on cold weather or freezing water. Carlyn Sautter works for Graham Parks and Recreation.

Carlyn Sautter: "It is not ice, its actually a very dense polymer. But it skates like ice, it actually looks like ice, so you kind of feel like you're on ice when you're out there. You do use real ice skates so it gives it that added effect as well."

Figure Skating Championships Glide into Greensboro

Thousands of visitors are pouring into Greensboro for one of this country's most prestigious sporting events- the annual U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Jessica Jones reports.

Thousands of visitors are pouring into Greensboro for one of this country's most prestigious sporting events- the annual U-S Figure Skating Championships. It begins tomorrow and runs through January 30th at the Greensboro Coliseum. This is the first time North Carolina has ever hosted the competition.

U.S. Figure Skating Comes to Greensboro

The nation's most prestigious figure skating event will begin tomorrow in Greensboro. The 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships features the best figure skaters in the country. They're competing for a variety of prizes in different categories. It's the first time North Carolina has hosted the competition. Kim Strable heads the Greensboro Sports Commission, which helps bring big events like this to the city. He says if everything goes smoothly next week, it will open the doors for Greensboro to host more skating competitions.
