Mark Lijek was working in the American embassy in Iran when it was taken over Nov. 4, 1979. Americans were taken hostage, but he and five others were able to escape the compound and make their way to an apartment. The CIA ultimately helped them leave Tehran with the help of a cover story and false identities that passed the group off as a Hollywood crew making a sci-fi film called Argo. Mark later wrote a memoir called The Houseguests.

Lovers of independent and foreign film have lost a landmark. Cary's Galaxy Cinema is closed as of today. A developer reportedly plans to replace the theater with a Harris Teeter supermarket. There are many lists of the best movies of all time. But there are also a few titles that come up again and again as the best worst movies.  Critics argue between “The Room,” “Troll 2,” and “Plan 9 from Outer Space,” but that doesn’t mean these so-called bad films don’t have huge fan followings.

“One Man…Two Titanium Legs…100 Chickens.” That’s the tag line for a forthcoming documentary called “The Farmer Veteran Project” produced by Vittles Films. The movie centers around the story of Alex Sutton, a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan who was seriously injured on his final tour of duty.
