The band Schooner’s journey to their first national release of an album was not without bumps in the road.

Founder Reid Johnson created a new line-up of members after the band nearly broke up in 2007. The composition of the band changed again for the latest album, Neighborhood Veins. Host Frank Stasio talks to Schooner, and they play live in the studio.

Durham's City Council reviewed a proposal that would allow bowhunting within city limits Thursday night. They sent the proposal back to city lawyers for changes.

After 24 years together, the Chapel Hill indie-rock group Superchunk is releasing their 10th studio album, I Hate Music.  

Host Frank Stasio talks with band members Mac McCaughan and Jim Wilbur about the quirky album title and the band’s evolution. They will also perform  acoustic versions of their latest songs.

Allison Swaim spent a year at sea. She rode on eight different cargo ships, documenting life onboard and circumnavigating the world.

She came back a year ago with hours of tape and hundreds of photos from her adventure. When she returned, Allison opened up her collection to artists, who made their own art in response to her work. The show, “Hold Capacity/Trade Route Stories, Reimagined,” features the work of a group of local artists who collaborated with Allison.

Today was the candidate filing deadline for several area mayoral races. Mayors in Durham, Raleigh and Greensboro will faces challenges in their bids for reelection.

In Durham, current mayor Bill Bell will be running for re-election with challenges from East Durham minister Sylvester Williams and Michael Valentine, a current member of the Durham Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee.

This is believed to be a Civil War-era cannonball, similar to the one Michael Jacobs discovered in Durham recently.

A Durham man who discovered a Civil War era cannonball in his yard had it detonated by a bomb squad this week.

Michael Jacobs took the cannonball to an antiques dealer. But, it ended up with a Durham bomb squad. They had to disarm it; in spite of its age, it could still explode.

John Guss is with the historic Bennett House in Durham. Guss says the area was a hotbed of Civil War activity in 1865:

The Duke Mens Lacrosse Team won its second national title.

The Duke men's lacrosse team overcame an early deficit to beat Syracuse 16-10 for its second national title.  The Blue Devils began Monday's game by missing their first 11 shots on goal.  That allowed the Orange to race out to a 5-nothing lead into the second quarter. 

Duke head coach John Danowski said he felt the pressure of the game was a factor.
