Duke Energy Assesses 1700-Acre Chatham Co. Tract For Business Potential

A large parcel of undeveloped land near Siler City has been chosen by Duke Energy to take part in the utility's Site Readiness Program. The utility selected a total of 17 sites in the Carolinas, ten of which are in North Carolina. Duke Energy's Jeff Brooks says the 1700-acre Chatham County tract will be assessed for its potential to lure large industry and manufacturing to the area and calls it a "win-win" for everyone.

Chatham County Celebrates New Justice Center

Chatham County's new Justice Center is open for business.

The new justice center has four courtrooms, and significantly more office space than the previous, historic courthouse in Pittsboro. Plans to move out of that building started 13 years ago, but a fire in 2010 threatened its future. David Hughes is the Public Works Director in Chatham county. He says the 130-year-old building has been preserved.

Chatham County Seeks Input on 9/11 Memorial

Officials in Chatham County are welcoming public input on a proposed site for a 9/11 memorial. The centerpiece will be a small part of the World Trade Center donated by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey. Citizens can weigh in at the Board of Commissioners meeting tonight in Pittsboro. Debra Henzey is the director of communications for Chatham County. She says one possible site is in the center of town.

The goal of the project is to encourage schools and teachers to integrate physical activity into the curriculum no matter what the discipline. They're a bluegrass-inspired band that has spent the last couple weeks criss-crossing North Carolina and Georgia with a holiday concert series.
