Former Tarheel Reaches Final Phase Of LPGA Qualifying School

Katherine Perry never won a tournament when she was on scholarship for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's women's golf team. But she's made it through the first two phases of the LPGA Qualifying School. Today is the start of the third and final phase. If Perry is one of the top 20 women, she will earn a spot on the LPGA Tour.

Cary Considers Overcrowded Schools In Rezoning Talks

 Members of the Cary Town Council are calling on county officials to help address the issue of overcrowding in Wake County public schools.

Earlier this month, the council tabled a request to rezone about 58 acres in west Cary that would have created 130 new homes.

Some members say they don’t feel comfortable moving forward with the plan just yet – at least not while many of the nearby schools are at or above capacity.

The Triangle's Brainpower, Airport Draw Tech Expansion, And 1200 New Jobs

A $5 billion global tech company announced today that it's expanding its operations in Wake County.  Now, the company plans to create more than 1,237 new jobs in Cary.

HCL Technologies is an India-based information technology company. They cover a huge range of services, from equipment manufacturing to airline transport logistics, to energy utility billing.

Rajiv Sodhi is the chief workforce competitive officer at HCL. He says they were looking for a place to centralize service for customers on the east coast.

Cary Tells You Where You Can Put That Cracked Patio Chair

Residents of Cary can now place bulky #2HDPE plastics in their curbside recycling bins.

Starting today, residents of Cary can recycle even more waste materials.  In addition to soda bottles and milk jugs, Cary will accept bulky #2 HPDE plastic in its curbside recycling bins.

Solid Waste Division Manager Bob Holden said that includes old patio furniture, storage bins, and garbage cans.

“We listened to our citizens,” Holden said. “Our citizens wanted us to look for more ways to recycle more things. And working with our contractor, they found a domestic market that would accept these specific items to make paint cans out of them.”

Coming Attraction: 1940's Era 'The Cary' Theatre Opens Its Doors Again

Triangle film and theater enthusiasts will have a new venue to check out starting this weekend. "The Cary" has been getting a facelift over the past year. It officially opens Saturday in downtown Cary. It'll show documentaries, 'indie' films and classic box office hits.

Um, Why Is Cary Getting 8,000 New Streetlamps Again?

Those 8,000 new street lamps will save money, and are a green choice.

The Town of Cary has announced a partnership with Duke Energy Progress to switch out most of its high-pressure sodium streetlamps (the yellow kind) with LED lamps (the white kind).

LEDs are more easily directed in a specific direction and also more energy efficient. So not only can the town do a better job of putting the light on the road (as opposed to spilling off into the neighboring areas), they'll also save an estimated $200,000 a year.

Google Names Cary The Leading NC City For Online Business

Google named Cary the state's 2013 eCity for the strength of its online small business community.

Google has announced its first eCity awards, recognizing one city in every state for the strength of its online business community. In North Carolina, Google gave that distinction to Cary for the high percentage of small businesses that leverage the Internet to connect with customers. Being an eCity won’t earn Cary cash prizes or awards, but it does earn the mayor a congratulatory phone call from Google and some hefty bragging rights.
