Customers of the state's largest health insurance company who get their coverage through the Affordable Care Act might pay more in 2017.

Officials with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina have asked state regulators for a nearly 19 percent rate increase for customers who buy coverage through www.healthcare.gov.

The head of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina is speaking out in support of expanding Medicaid in the state.

Brad Wilson is President and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.

“As business leaders of North Carolina, you need to help us craft a solution to expand Medicaid," said Wilson.

Wilson tossed out that charge during this week’s Economic Forecast Forum in Research Triangle Park, sponsored by the North Carolina Bankers Association and the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce. 

  The battle for the state’s 2nd congressional district is heating up and for the first time, Republican incumbent Renee Ellmers and Democratic challenger Clay Aiken faced off in a debate yesterday.
