Campaign Priorities & Projects
$1,800,000 to establish a New Initiatives Fund
The creation, production and distribution of a The Story hosted by Dick Gordon, a WUNC-based Marketplace bureau and an annual North Carolina Voices series are among the immediate needs that will be supported by contributions to this fund. WUNC must increase the ranks of staff and reporters to keep pace with new programming needs and listener demands.
$1,000,000 to configure expanded studio space in the American Tobacco Historic District
In 2005 WUNC moved into 8,000 square feet of office space in Durham's new American Tobacco Historic District donated by Capitol Broadcasting Company. These beautiful, state-of-the-art facilities have nearly doubled WUNC's studio production capacity and have enabled WUNC to quickly and cost-effectively add much-needed offices and production facilities to accommodate our growing staff and portfolio of programs. Financial and in-kind contributions are needed to cover the costs to configure offices, build and equip the new studios, and install technology for the new facility to communicate with our Chapel Hill headquarters.
$250,000 to expand our staff and facilities into surrounding communities
News bureaus in Greensboro and Raleigh will greatly expand the reach and depth of news coverage across our state. Expanded market coverage will increase our base of listeners, enable the station to conduct more in-depth and on-site news coverage, and enhance the visibility and impact of WUNC overall.
$200,000 to improve production facilities and upgrade equipment
Technical and computer server upgrades in the main production studio, a new satellite distribution system, and improvements in transmission equipment including a digital transmitter are critically needed to boost current capacities and ensure adequate infrastructure for future programming.
