The latest book from Frances O'Roark Dowell is about a topic most contemporary children's authors wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole: the Vietnam War. But, with a 12-year-old U.S. Army brat as the narrator of a rich story about a military family's experiences with war, Dowell's historical novel, "Shooting the Moon," (Atheneum/2008) manages to appeal to young and old alike. The writer joins host Frank Stasio to talk about the book and share some of the personal coming-of-age-experiences that influenced her work.
